I’ve spent a portion of my morning talking ‘at home fitness‘. It is EVERYWHERE right now. And that is not a bad thing. We all need to get moving in order to protect our health on many levels.
Many of us have found ourselves out of our local gym. While others might be in the situation where they have more time to think about their health. So needless to say, it’s a big conversation right now, for various reasons.
However, where there is needs, there are gimmicky promotions, sales opportunists and advertising. Right!? Buy this, buy that, “it is an all in one muscle building, butt shaping, tummy trimming wonder!!” It must be true. The internet said so.
Do I really need to spend my money on at home gym equipment?
The short answer is, no.
All I really need to pump out a decent workout is a bit of space, comfortable clothing and music.
There are many great equipment-free exercises you can do. Here is an example of a workout:

But what if you do want some basic equipment. What should you buy?
A simple and low-cost starting gym set might look something like this:
- Resistance bands
- Small set of dumbbells
- A yoga mat
- Skipping rope
- Gym ball
From there you can grow it as you please. Watch out for those gimmicks that say they will be everything you need. They won’t. And use your imagination, if you have kids with a bit of out door play equipment, try using that too (just watch for weight limits and safety).
